Upwork Has Officially Removed RSS Feeds

February 07, 20251 min read

Since August 20, 2024, Upwork no longer supports RSS feeds. It  has officially removed RSS feeds, and while it’s frustrating to lose real-time job notifications, this change might actually work in our favor. Let’s first understand what RSS feeds and how freelancers used to use it.

What is RSS Feeds?

RSS Feeds are an easy way to stay up to date with your favorite websites, such as blogs or online magazines. If a site offers an RSS feed, you get notified whenever a post goes up, and then you can read a summary or the whole post. As for Upwork’s RSS feeds, it was a bunch of features that allowed freelancers to receive job notifications based on their saved searches.

The Bad Side

The bad side about removing RSS feeds is that now you can’t filter out jobs, save your searches and receive notifications about new jobs that match your searches neither on upwork nor on your email.  So, RSS allowed freelancers to make tracking job posts seamless. With the help of this feature you could also build a Trello system around it.

The Good Side

With fewer bots and automated proposals flooding job postings, real freelancers now have a better chance of standing out.  It's time to adapt. Instead of relying on automation, we need to take a more hands-on approach.

✅ Less competition from bots means clients will see more authentic proposals

✅ More visibility for well-crafted applications with a personal touch

✅ Strategies to stay ahead: Refresh job feeds manually, leverage Upwork’s native features, and stay logged in.

While this change might slow down how we find opportunities, it ultimately levels the playing field for skilled freelancers who put in the effort.
